      Observing and Imaging

Students may be challenged to consider and re-imagine what they are perceiving concerning motion. As motion is a prevalent detail in considering reality, students may wish to describe their understanding of motion in an introductory creative activity. Students may learn that they are not fully perceiving, rather depending on one sense more than others as they consider a familiar motion or context. Perception requires a student to process and consider the stimuli. Considering how motion is perceived provides a challenge to deepen the appreciation for all that will follow in the instructional sequence. Students may find that they will begin to perceive motion where they had not noticed or considered it before. In this manner, students will grow as they encounter Physics is in every aspect of their daily lives.

Below is an example of an assignment where photos and a poem were composed to express perception in more than one avenue. Students can demonstrate their understanding  by creating a a  product that  includes both photos and a poem. The students will then will digitally share their gallery to display their creative thoughts. Throughout the Physics course, students will be studying motion. This introductory activity may help students to transfer the study of motion from the synchronous or asynchronous classroom to a much wider landscape..

In a second or alternative introductory assignment, students might create a collage of  objects that evoke thoughts of motion, in a space where they can re-imagine the images and provide descriptions and photos related to the motion
